Level 2: Defensive Carbine

In this course, students will develop the necessary skills to use a carbine to effectively defend themselves.  Some of the material covered includes:  Off-hand precision shooting, off-hand moving while shooting, transitioning between shoulders when pieing around cover/concealment, shooting above, beside, and below objects such as vehicles, transitioning to a sidearm, clearing malfunctions, reloading, magazine re-allocation.  A few weeks prior to the course students will be given the opportunity to attend an information seminar to assess the current capability of their equipment and receive advice on any possible improvements which could be made before the course.  

Equipment Needed:

  • Defensive carbine with at least 1 belt mounted magazine holder.
    • 5.56 caliber is recommended but not required.
  • Defensive pistol with holster and 1 belt mounted magazine carrier.
    • Recommend using the same holster that is normally carried.
  • Minimum of 210 rounds of ammunition (160 carbine, 50 pistol)
  • Eye Protection
  • Ear Protection
  • Sack Lunch (for Saturday)
  • Water Bottle
  • Writing Utensil
  • Folding Chair (optional)
  • May need these items depending on weather:
    • Towel
    • Bug Spray
    • Sunblock
    • Rain Jacket

Why Take This Course:

The purpose of this course is to provide alumni of Defensive Foundation with the additional skill-set needed to combine what they already know regarding defensive pistols with a defensive carbine.  The purpose of a defensive carbine is to provide a more effective tool to be used to stop a threat.  A common phrase used since the 1800's is that "one carries a pistol so that they can fight their way to their rifle."  

Course layout:

The course will consist of 5+ hours, depending on the dynamics of the particular group.

Medical Needs:

If you have a medical need, please contact us and we will do our best to accommodate you.  We have worked with several students with joint problems, impaired or missing limbs, wheelchairs, bad sensory function, arthritis, etc.  We will help you develop the techniques to meet your individual requirements.

Re-scheduling/Refunds:

If you sign up and afterward have an emergency, we will work with you to re-schedule you into a different course.  If you are no longer able to attend a course due to extenuating circumstances (moving, bad accident, etc.), we will refund your course fee to you.
